3 9/16" Undrilled Tablet made from attractive green and black Glacial Slate. Recovered in Ohio. From the Warrington Family Collection. The history of the Warrington Family Collection: John Warrington Sr. was born in Dayton Ohio in 1928. He began collecting by field walking the family farm in the 1940’s. In 1958, John was working for a school district in the Dayton area as a carpenter and custodian. While doing so, he was tasked with clearing out an old storage room and tossing all the contents into a dumpster. In the room he came across 3 bushel baskets which contained stone artifacts that were wrapped in 1930’s newspaper. The relics had been in the room in storage for nearly 30 years. With permission from his school supervisor, who stated they were just rocks and to toss them, he was granted the OK to not throw them into the dumpster and he thankfully took them home, saving them from the landfill. John then began studying and researching the artifacts in earnest, and over the next 30 years amassed a collection of nearly 1,000 artifacts. The collection passed to his son John Warrington Jr. upon his passing in 1990. The entire collection remained in the Warrington family and spent many years on display at the Miamisburg Historical Society's History Center until it’s recent consignment by the family to Premiere Auctions Group.
